We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to the Hillsdale County Intermediate School District Transportation. At HCISD, transportation is considered a part of your child’s educational program. The bus ride each day is a continuation of your child’s daily learning experience, encouraging him/her to use skills outside the classroom situation (getting along with others, following directions, and obeying rules).
As parents/guardians, we are sure that many of you have questions and concerns. In the next few pages we will attempt to cover many of these questions.
For example, you may have concerns regarding the bus driver and the vehicle your child will be riding each day. Allow us to assure you that all of our drivers are highly qualified. They have had many hours of in-depth training given by certified personnel and have passed a detailed written exam given by the Michigan State License Bureau.
All of our vehicles are evaluated by the Michigan State Police annually and have passed the Michigan State Bus Inspection. Our vehicles are equipped with many safety devices and are radio equipped. Each unit has a seat belt for each child. Our orthopedic vehicles are equipped with special tie-down straps to secure wheelchairs. If your child requires a car seat due to age or handicap, we will be able to provide an appropriate seat for each student.
The main interest of the HCISD Board of Education is that your child is transported in the safest and most efficient manner possible. We will do all we can do to ensure you and your child’s experience with transportation is pleasant one.
