Mrs. Dona Maxfield
Teacher of Engineering, Drafting, & Design Technologies
As an American born abroad, Dona has had the opportunity to learn four languages as well as become familiar with different cultures and ways of learning. Learning to read Anna Sewell’s “Black Beauty” at age 4, Dona still continues to seek out new knowledge and challenges. After graduating from community college with 3 Associate’s degrees, Dona attended Spring Arbor University to earn her Bachelor’s degree. As her career path led on through her life, Dona earned her Master’s degree in education and she continues to attend training and professional development throughout each year.
Dona has been the Program Manager for the Precision Machining and then the Drafting & Design Technologies classes at the Hillsdale Area Career Center for more than 10 years. Before teaching, however, her mechanical engineering career began in earnest at the state-of-the-art steel recycling/milling plant in northwestern Ohio. After moving to Michigan, Dona worked for a division of MASCO Corporation in Hillsdale for several years. When the occasion presented itself, Dona found the career of her heart—teaching and helping students reach their goals and finding their dreams while learning a valuable and employable skill.
